Why custom flavored matcha starts at one metric ton per flavor
A procurement explanation of the one-metric-ton MOQ for each approved custom flavored matcha formula.
DIRECT ANSWER
Under XIAO TEA's current commercial model, the one-metric-ton MOQ applies to each approved flavor entering formal production. Different flavors do not combine toward one formula-level MOQ; paid development and samples come before that production commitment.
USE THIS GUIDE IF
- Food and beverage manufacturers with a defined application
- Brands with a launch plan and repeat-volume potential
- Importers consolidating demand for one approved formula
NOT THE RIGHT ROUTE IF
- A café testing a few kilograms
- Retail or personal-use orders
- Projects without a target application or target market
BUYER DECISION TABLE
What the one-metric-ton threshold actually qualifies
MOQ is a formula-control threshold, not just a shipping rule
A custom project creates obligations that a standard-stock product does not: the formula direction must be documented, application feedback must be reconciled, the accepted sample must be identified and the commercial batch must have a comparison basis.
The order quantity therefore follows the approved formula or flavor. Combining unrelated flavors into one nominal quantity would hide the separate setup, material and quality-control work behind each formula.
What buyers should confirm before requesting development
A useful brief states the destination market, finished product, target consumer, expected first order, target launch timing and the flavor problem to solve. A flavor name alone is not enough to select a matcha base or define an application test.
If the forecast is below one metric ton per flavor, the more efficient route is usually a standard product rather than a custom formula project.

Questions buyers ask next
Is one metric ton the MOQ for the whole order?
It is the MOQ for each approved formula or flavor entering commercial production.
Can we test before ordering one metric ton?
Yes. The USD 1,000 development program provides up to five flavor directions, 50 g per flavor, international sample courier and two adjustment rounds before commercial production.
Can different packaging formats share the MOQ?
Packaging and production scope must be reviewed separately; the one-metric-ton rule refers to the approved flavored matcha formula.
